THE SPOT TO STOP - July 7, 2017

There is a spot where we always stop near Schreiber ON called The Hungry Moose. Judy and Chris who own the restaurant have a very relaxed approach to table service. There is always a large table of Schreiber residents having coffee in the centre of the dining space, and if you are a new customer, whoever notices you first hops up and serves you coffee. Thereafter, you are expected to serve yourself. For refills, whoever first feels the need, picks up the pot and makes the round of the tables.
It was during one such pass that a fellow named Jan came to our table and said to Carl, "That van of yours sure grew since you were here last!" in reference to our recent purchase of a larger RV. We all laughed, and then he turned to Carl and joked, "You won't hurt yourself again this time you're in Schreiber, eh," referring to an occasion thirty-three years in the past when Carl as construction superintendent accidentally rolled a large pipe length onto his finger and had to go to hospital.
Schreiber residents are long on hospitality and have long memories!
